One of the most astonishing discoveries about the Universe is that our physical reality doesn't appear to be governed by strictly deterministic laws. Instead, at the quantum level, the laws of physics are inherently probabilistic: you can calculate the probability of different experimental outcomes, but only by measuring the specific quantity can you know what your system is doing at that exact moment.
